FREEDOM REQUIRES VIRTUE AND COURAGE
(from a poem by Andreas Calvos. Lessons' project)

First Day......................................................................

Preparation: Pupils have to find in a dictionary the word VIRTUE, and to think on the given definitions.
Action: We restrict the pupils' view with a piece of fabric, and we lead them to a room covered with white paper. They walk moving around and, using a brush and colours, they draw on the floor or on the walls the sign each one has choosen (an x, a +, a circle or others). Several parcels and other objects are scattered in the room in order to make harder or easier the movements of the pupils.

Second Day..................................................................

Preparation: Pupils have to findin a dictionary the word COURAGE, and to think on the given definitions.
Action: We ask the pupils to walk on a 10 m. long "corridor" made out of rice paper, without making any noise.

Third Day.....................................................................

Preparation: Pupils have to find in a dictionary the word FREEDOM, and to think on the given definitions.
Action: We read the phrase "Freedom requires virtue and courage" by Andreas Calvos, and we discuss the story of Icarus. We inform the pupils that this phrase will be the nucleus of their action. The action will be presented in front of the other pupils in the room where the signs from the first day exist. We ask the pupils to use their body to demonstrate the phrase and, simultaneously, to improvise on the sound dimension of the phrase overcoming its meaning.

The action of the first and the second days is to be individually. The action of the third day will be in group.
